I’m not going to lie, I love hopping on a viral trend.
Remember things like whipped coffee, Boursin cheese pasta, and cottage cheese everything?!
Shop my coffee favorites on Amazon!
Well, this is no different.
It’s fun to make, it’s all over the internet, and it tastes so good!

What is the Viral Cracking Latte?
It was first discovered on TikTok (I believe) and then I saw it over on Instagram.
Think of it as a delicious iced latte filled with a hard chocolate shell, ice, milk, and of course, espresso.
It’s a great treat to have as your morning coffee or do what I do and have it as a sweet pick-me-up after lunch.
Why You’ll Love This Cracking Latte
If you like coffee and chocolate, you’ll love this cracking latte recipe!
The frozen outside layer of chocolate is a nice sweet treat.
Combine it with the espresso, milk, and ice, and you have … the viral cracking latte!
The best part about it is when the hard shell of the cup is completely hard and it’s time to start cracking the cup.
Mind you, the cup has to be plastic (this part kind of stinks as I am not a fan of plastic cups) but I just had to try this recipe out for myself!
What Ingredients Do I Need to Make the Cracking Latte?
Melted chocolate chips would be the first ingredient.
I like using semi-sweet chocolate chips but you could do milk chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, peanut butter chocolate chips, butterscotch chocolate chips, or any other flavor you would like.
You will need your favorite kind of milk.
For this particular recipe, I used oat milk which was nice and creamy.
I’ve seen people use regular milk. almond milk, cashew milk, coconut milk, and soy milk.
You will also need ice cubes to make this an iced latte of course!
Don’t forget a shot of espresso! I added 2 shots but you can also add cold brew or a strong coffee.
Lastly, don’t forget the plastic cup.
If you like syrup/sweetener you can add this in as well!
I typically don’t have plastic cups lying around but I grabbed a smoothie from the gym one day and they served it in a plastic cup so I washed it and used it for this.
How to Make this Viral Recipe
The first thing you need to do is grab your plastic cup and get it ready.
Melt the chocolate of choice and then use a spoon to spread it all over the inside of the plastic cup.
Place the cup in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes or until the chocolate is completely hardened.
While the cup is freezing, make your espresso/coffee.
Take the cup out of the freezer and fill it to the top with ice cubes.
Add in your milk and espresso (and syrup/sweetener if you want) and pop the lid on.
Squeeze the plastic cup gently and you’ll start seeing the sides cracking!
Pros and Cons About the Viral Cracking Latte
There are a few pros and cons about this viral cracking latte that I figure I should cover prior to you making it!
Pros:
It tastes super good, like really good! This is a great option if you like drinking mochas!
It’s easy to make and only takes a few ingredients.
This recipe is a fun one to make. You can even do a chocolate milk one with your kids instead of the coffee.
Cons:
You have to use a plastic cup and I am not a fan of plastic.
The chocolate tends to sit in the bottom once it falls off of the sides. However, it’s a great treat at the end of the drink.
Will You Try the Viral Cracking Latte?
Now it’s your turn, will you try this latte?
I’ve made it a few times and I really do like it but I think it’s time for me to move on and try a different cracking latte drink.
My next thought is to try one with peanut butter chips, YUM!
