Although we are in the beginning of July the stores already have Halloween decorations out which made me think of back to school.

With just 7 weeks of summer left I wanted to get a head start on some fun back to school things like recipes, crafts, and more!

Cake Pop Desserts

Have you ever made cake pops?

They are so delicious and only it only takes three ingredients to make! All you need to get are lollipop sticks, cake mix, icing, and melted chocolate!

With different cake pops come different decorations.

I’ve made Confetti Cake Pops, Halloween Cake Pops, and more!

I used to think cake pops were going to be so difficult to make but they are SO EASY. Like.. sooooo easy. I even went through a phase where I made them weekly for a whole month.

Oh, and they taste way better than the Starbucks kind if you ask me,

Cake pops are such a fun dessert to customize and make for kids’ birthday parties, Holiday events, and honestly, just for the heck of making and eating them!

What Ingredients are Needed to Make Back to School Cake Pops

As mentioned above, you really only need 3 ingredients as the staple for making cake pops.

The cake itself, icing, and chocolate wafers,

For this particular recipe I used chocolate cake, cream cheese frosting, and red chocolate wafers.

To make the apple stem I used a pretzel stick and then got cute leaf sprinkles to complete the look!

How to Make Back to School Cake Pops

Making these cake pops is super easy!

First you need to bake the cake according to the directions on the box.

how much are cake pops

I’ve never done it with a cake from scratch but I would assume it’s the same concept.

Once the cake is cooled, crumble it up.

Slowly add frosting until you can roll them into balls.

Typically it’s about half a tub or so of frosting.

Make sure they are a little bit crumbly and not overly “wet”.

Take your pretzel sticks and break them just a little bit so they are the perfect size for apple stems.

Melt the red chocolate wafers and dip one end of the pretzel stick into the chocolate.

Press the chocolate end of the stick into the cake pop which creates a “glue” and makes it easier to dip the cake pops into the red chocolate.

Then place them in the fridge for 5-10 minutes.

Once the chocolate hardens, dip the whole cake pop into the red chocolate and add the leaf sprinkle.

Let the cake pops sit in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens.

What Other Cake Pop Flavors Can I Make with this Recipe

If you were to ask me my favorite is always the spice cake with cream cheese frosting.

Make it in the fall and thank me later.

Some other great options are the basic vanilla cake pops, chocolate cake pops, lemon flavored cake pops, strawberry flavored cake pops, funfetti cake pops, red velvet cake pops, and more!

Box Cake vs. Homemade Cake Mix

I personally have only used box cake when making cake pops.

However, I have seen tons of recipes saying homemade cake mix works just as well!

Just keep in mind you probably won’t see a homemade cake mix cake pop option on this blog.

I like to keep thing simple!

Recommended Baking Tips

Dip your stick (or in this case, pretzel) into the chocolate before putting into the cake pop. This creates a glue to keep the stick with the cake pop and won’t have it sliding off.

Rotate your stick and tap on the bowl when dipping in the chocolate to get rid of the excess chocolate.

Add toppings immediately so they stick to the cake pop.

Keep in fridge until ready to eat or the chocolate can get soft and melted.

    Ingredients

    • 1 box Cake Mix
    • 1/2 container Frosting
    • 1 bag Red Chocolate Candy Melts
    • Pretzel Sticks
    • Leaf Sprinkles

    Instructions

    1. Bake cake mix according to instructions.

    2. Once the cake is cooled, crumble it up. Then slowly add frosting until you can roll them into balls (without being too doughy). Make sure they are a tad crumbly.

    3. Break the pretzel sticks just a tad so they look like stems when they come out of the cake pop.

    4. Melt the red chocolate wafers and dip one end of the pretzel stick into the chocolate.

    5. Put the chocolate end of the stick into the cake pops. This will create a "glue" to make it easier to dip the cake pops into the red chocolate.

    6. Place them in the fridge for 5-10 minutes.

    7. Once the chocolate hardens, dip the whole cake pop into the red chocolate and add the leaf sprinkle.

    8. Let the cake pops sit in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens.
