This post contains a recipe on how to make Lucky Charms hot chocolate bombs!
Have you ever staged a Leprechaun visit on St. Patrick’s Day?
One time, my parents fooled my sister by turning her room upside down. She walked into her room and everything was a mess.
I’m thinking I need to do it to my kids this year. Keeps things exciting around the house!
Since hot chocolate bombs are all the rage right now, I am on a roll with making tons and tons of cute holiday hot chocolate bomb recipes.
After making Peppermint Hot Chocolate Bombs for Christmas and Heart-Shaped Hot Chocolate Bombs for Valentine’s Day, it was time to make some Lucky Charms Hot Chocolate Bombs for St. Patrick’s Day.
Say that 10 times fast….
Besides, those Lucky Charm marshmallows are too cute to pass up.
You may see a few more recipes up my sleeve that contain those adorable marshmallows.
WHAT IS A HOT CHOCOLATE BOMB?
A hot chocolate bomb is a hollow hardened chocolate sphere created with a silicone mold. Inside has delicious cocoa powder, marshmallows (this time using Lucky Charms marshmallows), and any other toppings you want to put inside.
This one is a HUGE hit for the kiddos because we all know, they pick out the colorful marshmallows when eating Lucky Charms cereal.
HOW TO MELT AND DRINK THEM
Heat up whatever liquid you plan on mixing the hot chocolate bomb in. I prefer milk or coffee but you can do water too!
Next, place your hot chocolate bomb inside a wide mug.
Pour the hot liquid over the bomb slowly and make sure your kids watch because that’s the best part!
The chocolate will start melting and the Lucky Charms marshmallows start popping out of the bomb and into the heated liquid.
Mix and add some whipped cream along with any extra toppings (rainbow sprinkles would be super cute for this one) and enjoy.
WHAT YOU NEED IN ORDER TO MAKE THEM
You need to get a silicone mold because that’s what makes the sphere that holds the cocoa powder and toppings inside.
I got mine from Amazon here and found a few more here, here, and here!
If you want to get super fancy, you can try these four-leaf clover molds I found on Amazon.
I stuck with the basic round silicone one this time.
Make sure you set aside a plate, a cup of warm water, a spoon, a baking sheet, and a ziplock or piping bag.
These will all come in handy when it’s time!
INGREDIENTS FOR LUCKY CHARMS HOT CHOCOLATE BOMBS
For these particular Lucky Charms Hot Chocolate Bombs, you will need one bag of white melting chocolates (or whatever color of choice you want the sphere to be).
Then, you’ll need light green sugar sprinkles, a handful of Lucky Charms marshmallows, and some hot cocoa powder.
That’s it! This recipe is super simple.
HOW TO MAKE LUCKY CHARMS HOT CHOCOLATE BOMBS
Get your white chocolate melts into a bowl melt the chocolate according to the directions on the bag (typically microwave works well), then add the chocolate to the silicone molds by using a spoon.
Be sure to get the edges very well so they don’t crack. Sometimes I do two coats of chocolate.
Next, let the chocolate harden inside the silicone molds. Place them in the fridge if you want them to harden quickly.
After they harden, add more chocolate if needed and let it harden again.
Gently take the chocolate half-spheres out of the molds and put them on a baking sheet.
After the chocolate molds are out, fill half of them with a scoop of hot cocoa and the Lucky Charms marshmallows.
Warm-up a plate in the microwave for 30 seconds and then take the other half of the chocolate bombs and gently place the bottom of it on for about 20-30 seconds to lightly melt the edges.
This will help secure the two half spheres together.
TIP: IF there are any holes, YOU CAN WARM UP A CUP OF WATER, PLACE A METAL SPOON INSIDE TO HEAT IT UP, THEN USE THAT SPOON TO SEAL THE EDGES BY PRESSING GENTLY ALONG THE SEAM OF THE CHOCOLATE SPHERE.
The best part is decorating the chocolate bomb. This time I added green sugar sprinkles and Lucky Charms marshmallows.
Very festive, don’t you think?
Snip a tiny piece off the edge of the ziplock bag or piping bag and swizzle some white chocolate all over the hot chocolate bombs and add the green sugar sprinkles on top.
After those harden, add a dollop of white chocolate and lightly press crushed marshmallows.
Cute, huh?
